This is the homestead the Boharts’ lived in at Sand Creek across the
river from Wardner, BC. From left to Right are Robert Henry, Ada Bessie,
Seth, Hazel and Robert Hilber. Missing from the photo is Thomas Henry
Bohart as he was attending school in Bozeman, Montana. Wardner is
located south east of Cranbrook, BC, on the Kootenay River.
Robert Henry moved to Sand Creek, BC, in 1895. In 1896 he brought his
wife and 3 children to live in the above homestead. Robert Bohart ran a
weekly stage from Fort Steele to Tobacco Plains connecting with the
Tobacco Plains and Kalispel Stage. In 1899 he became a Canadian citizen
by local naturalization. In 1897 he applied to the Gold Commissioner of
East Kootenay for a license to sell liquor by retail at his premises
known as the "Bohart Hotel", the first of 3 hotels he owned in Canada.
He later moved from Fort Steele to Wardner, BC where his sons ran the
ranch and he operated his 2nd hotel, "Wardner Hotel"; this
hotel was destroyed by fire. He built his 3rd hotel "Wardner
Hotel"; which was sold about 1918. Robert then moved to Chilliwack where
he had a transfer business. In 1944 he moved to Vancouver to live with
his son Henry and family until his death in 1952.

Thomas, Hazel and Harris were born in Bozeman, Montana; Hilber was
born in Tobacco Plains on one of the trips to Kalispel. Thomas Bohart is
standing at the rear center, beside him is Hazel and Harris with Hilber
in front. Thomas was sent to live with an uncle in Bozeman, Montana so
he could attend school. This photo was taken about 1903. Thomas met
Pearl while attending school in Bozeman.
From left to right: Pearl Bohart, Alice, Harry, Thomas Bohart, Robert
Bohart, Helen holding Philip, Harold; in the front are: Jewel, Darrel,
and Audrey (my Mom). This picture would have been taken about 1935/36.
Robert would have been living in Chilliwack at the time.
